Numbers

We have grouped a small set of 21 Japanese kotoba that indicate numbers from 1 to 10 and more

Note: You must know Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji to learn them.

This is an easy milestone to cross. Once you know numbers, many other words are easy to learn. For example, months name. In Japanese language, the name of the months are simply represented by Month-1 to Month-12 Or to be litterally correct 1-Month to 12-Month. Check it out at Name of the Months page.

List of JLPT N5 words that indicates Numbers

Ni Two
さん San Three
し or よん Shi or Yon Four
Go Five
ろく Roku Six
なな or しち Nana or Shichi Seven
はち Hachi Eight
きゅう Kyuu Nine
じゅう Juu or Jyuu Ten
十一 じゅういち Juuichi Eleven
十二 じゅうに Juuni Twelve
二十 にじゅう Ni Jyuu Twenty
二十一 にじゅういち Ni Jyuu Ichi Twenty One
二十二 にじゅうに Ni Jyuu Ni Twenty Two
三十 さんじゅう San Jyuu Thirty
三十一 さんじゅういち San Jyuu Ichi Thirty One
九十九 きゅうじゅうきゅう Kyuujyuukyuu Ninetynine
ひゃく Hyaku Hundred
せん Sen Thousand
まん Man Ten Thousand

Eleven onwards, join juu + number
For example
Eleven is Ten + One
Ten is "Juu" and One is "Ichi", Hence the foll

Twenty is 2 x 10, which is ni x jyu = Ni + Jyu
Similar to Eleven onwards
Twenty one is Twenty + One = Nijyuu + ichi

Similarly for Thirty, Forty etc…
Thirty is 3 x 10, which is san x jyu = san + Jyu
Thirty one is Thirty + One = sanjyuu + ichi

Note:
For 4, we should use "Yon" for 14, 24, etc…
That is Jyu Yon is for Fourteen and Ni Jyuu Yon is for Twenty Four etc…
Similarly for 7, we should use "Nana" for 17, 27, etc…
That is Jyu Nana is for Seventeen and Ni Jyuu Nana is for Twenty Seven etc…

Now you have completed learning them. Congrats. This is a "small success" and a step ahead to completing all JLPT Level N5 Vocabulary.
